A nursery pot holds a green plant that is creeping out in all directions. The leaves are small to medium-sized, with a ruffled heart shape and small white hairs.

Tolmiea Menziesii 'Piggyback Plant,' 4-inch

The leaves of Tolmiea menziesii are a bright, emerald green, shaped like maple leaves with scalloped edges.  The mounding foliage is attractive with small hairs, but the way this plant propagates is what makes it a star. Mature leaves develop baby plantlets at the point where the leaf joins the stem. These plants grow "piggyback" on the mature leaves, like a child riding on his father's shoulders. The Piggyback plant is easy to grow and is particularly effective in a hanging basket. The plantlets weigh down the stems, giving Tolmiea menziesii a trailing habit.

Care Tips

Provide bright, indirect light for your Piggyback plant, in temps ranging from 50°-75°F (10°-24°C). Keep the peat moss rich potting mix evenly moist, but not wet. Cut back on the water in winter months.
